Ruby Flyover in Kolkata to be a reality soon

The design for the Ruby Flyover from Kalikapur to VIP Bazaar on EM Bypass in Kolkata is almost ready, and the construction work on the stretch would begin soon. The tallest flyover in the city, Ruby Flyover would comprise six lanes and would be available for public use in three years.

The six-lane Ruby Flyover that is anticipated to ease the traffic quagmires at Kalikapur and Ruby Crossing may become a reality soon as the design for the proposed stretch is ready.

According to an official from the Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority (KMDA), the highlight of the proposed flyover would be 5.5 m high skywalk planned below the upcoming Hemanta Mukherjee Metro station at the Ruby Crossing. The total height of the flyover will be 12 meters, which makes it the tallest flyover in the city.

The development cost of the elevated corridor from Kalikapur to VIP Bazaar on EM Bypass is anticipated to be Rs 600 crore. The project would be ready for use in the next three years from the date of commencement of work and will comprise six lanes, three in each flank.

Railway Consultancy, RITES has submitted the draft Detailed Project Report (DPR) to KMDA, which will be finalised once the issue about the arm of the flyover turning towards the Anwar Shah connector is solved.
