East Delhi Municipal Corporation surveys weak buildings
In the wake of the collapse of a two-story building in Nand Nagri, which killed one person, the East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) decided on Saturday to conduct a survey of weak buildings in areas under its jurisdiction
Beer Singh Panwar, chairman of the EDMC's Standing Committee told the media that EDMC officials visited the accident site and attempted to complete the rescue work
Panwar told the media that the structure was just over ten years old, and it appears that the landlord tried to do some extra work after a crack appeared on the ground floor level
According to information received, a two-story building with a 22 square yard area collapsed in the Nand Nagri E-Block area, according to the EDMC. The structure was old, but the owner was adding more columns
In the incident, three people were injured, and one person who was walking down the street died. Debris has been removed from the road
The fire department received a call around 1.30 p.m. about a house collapse in an automobile market in Nand Nagri, and six fire tenders were to the scene, according to officials
The ground-floor shops of a two-story building had collapsed
The family members of the house's owner were among the injured, according to EDMC panel chief Panwar
In the statement, EDMC Commissioner Vikas Anand informed that those responsible would face severe consequences
The commissioner had already directed officials to mark dangerous buildings and take appropriate action during a meeting on Friday
EDMC is responsible for monitoring, upgrading, and developing civic amenities efficiently to create a better tomorrow for an estimated 18 lakh people
