AHMEDABAD: The Gujarat High Court has issued notices to the state government, Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation and Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation Limited (GMRC) in response to a petition challenging allocation of houses built for the Lower Income Group (LIG) in the city to those affected under the Metro rail project here.

As per case details, AMC had introduced a scheme at Chandkheda under Mukhyamantri Awas Yojana for people of lower income group in 2013. The houses were to be allocated at the price of Rs 2.50 lakh via draw-of-lots system.

However, AMC passed a resolution in 2018 to allot a few of these houses to those affected by the Ahmedabad-Gandhinagar Metro rail project.

Residents of the society filed a plea in the high court though their lawyers Vijay Patel and Pritesh Shah raising objection to this move.
Dear Gujarat govt, where are senior doctors we need to fight our Covid-19 battle? They contended that the civic body cannot allot houses other than under the criteria prescribed for the scheme and that the houses should first be allotted to those in the waiting list.

The plea further submitted that “the decision of extending the benefits under the scheme is wholly without authority, in complete disregard to the eligibility criteria provided under the scheme as well as with complete discretion of the AMC and GMRC”.
