Around late ’64 Canada switched from green to red logo but used the same bold print design as the prior couple of years. In addition to the familiar Sunshine logo and Coleman in large letters stamped on the side of the fount, it is also stamped Industria Brasileira (Portuguese) between the date numbers. This 242B, dated July, 1938, also has a brass tag identifying it as the property of the WPA The ventilator, wing nut to fasten the frame, and the embossed nickel plated brass collar appear to be from the Toronto factory while the other parts appear to be US made. 242B Initial production of the mil-spec lantern by Coleman in 1944 resulted in lanterns without parts wells; Coleman designated these their Model 252, per Roger Hill. Later US 249s had a circular preheater cup that fit around the generator and an embossed, rather than stamped, base rest. This lantern is in Dan MacPherson’s collection. The label has information in French and Spanish in addition to English so perhaps these were meant for export. All of these of which I am aware are cracked or missing a piece of glass in nearly the same place and pattern on the upper right.
