We loved this friendly pub last year and recommended to many friends. Staff showed know care...at all and made it clear that we should just leave. In fairness the pizza main was good but teh garlic bread starter was dry as a bone. We have not been there for a long time. After ‘Alba’ failed , the place was renamed to ‘ The Rising Sun’ under a new management / new owners with nicely refurbished interior. I started having stomach pain and felt sick, a few minutes later I threw up. Massive umbrellas protected us from a downpour. When I asked if we could have a reduction on the price of the kids meal they went away and came back to say that they did, in fact, have mango sorbet. Would highly recommend super visit Thankyou. The bill arrived and the small spritzer which was served without ice and a bit of not-even-fizzy soda water was £7( the most expensive on the menu). The pork belly was to die for but the seafood chowder was everybit as good. Rare steak not rare. scampi. Good beer and good service. When we received the bill we also were not given the option to remove the service charge as it definitely did not deserve a 12.5% tip. I hope you do not consider canned food healthy , do you ? Can a vegan person get a good meal at this restaurant? Can a gluten free person get a good meal at this restaurant? Some nice touches, a framed rugby shirt, metal Camp Coffee ad, some nice drawings of the Thames riverside plus a stack of board games and the daily papers. England Wales - very busy but food and service were fantastic. We sat for around 20 mins with no one coming to our table. This was mainly due to the charming service and great Italian food. The light decor is replicated inside too, giving an appealing appearance on a sunny day. The pub was busy, with a nice buzzy atmosphere. We asked for a dairy free kid's dessert option and they said they didn't have one. Don't be mislead by the menu on the website. Will definitely return and will tell all our friends about this great venue. Since then it’s been hit and miss, mainly miss. At that moment the waitress came over and told us there’s only one chef in the kitchen and the kitchen was about to close at 8pm. A zucchini tempura was at least four times the helping I'd needed, as a starter, but very fresh. This was mainly due to the charming service and great Italian food. Good choice of beers from four handpumps: Shere Drop, Andwell Resolute, Oakham Citra and Thornbridge Wye (£3.60). Go here if you can and you will feel much happier that you did. The service then continued like this for the rest of our visit. Hugely disappointing experience, especially as the staff were hardly rushed off their feet - we were the ONLY PEOPLE IN THE PUB!! Fingers crossed this is a new beginning because we would really love a decent local pub again.More, It used to be ‘Alexander’ and it was great, one of the best local places with kind and friendly stuff and delicious food. The food was not too the same quality as before the fish and chips were dry and bland and the pizzas soggy. Food ok. I also felt a lot safer here. Vegetarian pizza not only smelled and tasted bad but it was so tasteless that not even salt and black pepper that we added made it better. They eventually arrived: small tumblers. My husband had the garlic bread and cheese. We have not been there for a long time. Our 2-year-old boy was served a child meal visibly heavily covered in salt - it was inedible for an adult and hugely inappropriate for a child. This time, I booked through Open Table to avoid the same thing happening again.
