I also own a Two Notes Torpedo CAB, and have been recording guitar amps and cabs for the last 10 years. Like other Two Notes products, it uses convolution impulse responses (IRs) taken from a range of guitar/bass speakers to reproduce the sound of real loudspeakers miked in a real space, and out of the box, the Torpedo CAB M comes with a library of 32 cabinets and eight microphone types. I have zero reason to get one except that the demos sound great and GAS. If and when I start playing with a band again, or if I start recording, I’m going to seriously consider this. There is also the Atomic Ampli-Firebox, which is another option that would feature more than the Iridium, but slightly less than the HX Stomp. Good advice! Good question. It was like that some time ago here too but it was like $350.00 a box, or some such. walmarts version...w extras Yeah I understand what you mean. Classic shoot out time Strymon Iridium vs Atomic Firebox vs Two Notes Cab M vs Humboldt Simplifier. To be honest I figured out there's be several such videos by now. (You must log in or sign up to reply here. It seems that the preamps can not be separated from the power amps. I had a Two Notes Cab M (that I sold to buy the Iridium), and the Strymon is way simpler to use, sounds better much faster, it has a great room reverb in stereo, and you can bypass it (something that is not possible with the Cab M unless you have a switcher). Is the Cab M still working great for you guys? The other advantages are that they're MUCH easier to record and they work equally well at all volume levels. I missed off the list of guitars that I've tried an early '50s 175 with 1p90 that I gave up for a Jim Hall Sadowsky - after long comparative testing! I’ve never played direct into a PA, so I’m not sure how I’d like it. Lately I've been thinking about getting a Captor for my amps and use the Stomp for FXs and IRs. The Iridium has 3 amplifier simulations (Fender, Vox AC30, Marshall) and 3 IR choices for each amplifier simulation and is stereo in and out. On the whole they feel annoying and hard to play to me, but there is a certain warmth in there. And at £399 and an excellent free on-line editor, it's very competitively priced. The line out of the HB/Jet city attenuator through an IR still wont sound as good as the captor, I've tried it. Really great Vox AC30. The Iridium is more of an ampless live performance tool than a hardcore studio recording tool, simply by virtue of how easy it is to dial in tones that sound good when going into the DAW or a PA. I have yet to see anyone make a video on YouTube comparing these two since The CAB M became the CAB M+ just over a month ago and I feel like this really needs to happen. thanks for all the friendly posts guys! If you want loud amp sounds silently don’t think there’s another/better option than a reactive load if you want to use real amps. I briefly had a Mooer GE200 and I wouldn't bother it was a toy compared to the Helix. I had a HX Stomp too and the convenience of having it all in one box wins over for me. That said there's a lot of options and I'm quite a tweaker so can get lost in all the settings and a/b'ing different amps etc. Also, the Cab M has a much more complete reverb and an aux jack. It's a fixed resistor in a separate circuit, that really doesn't sound great. So they aren't exactly in the same segment. Create a Two notes account and register your device on it if you didn’t already. Also, the Cab M has a much more complete reverb and an aux jack. Not really. Yes, when I bought it I thought 'shame its fixed level, but at least its one of the clever reactive loads so will sound fab'  I was wrong. Valve amps do feel different. That's a big difference right there. This thread is great and I have learned a lot so far! After years gigging with amps, I needed a direct to the board option and I'm pretty happy with it. The Cab M has the BT app, the iridium's editor is apparently basic. Always liked my combo amps but, after experimenting with the HX amps, I always go back to the small combo sounds like the Supro and the Gibson/Victoria Electro King. It's fantastic so easy and enjoyable to use. Copyright © 2020 - Jazz Guitar Online - All rights reserved - Privacy Policy. I feel a similar urge to pare down, given the ultra high quality these days. That's a big difference right there. I'm humbled by this thread's technicality. Personally, I've decided on the Pod Go (hopefully available end of June in the UK) because it's just so versatile and should fit my gigging & home needs perfectly. I was about to push the BUY button on the Strymon Iridium! I have a Stomp, so probably biased, but the Stomp is the best value solution, can be used for electric, bass, acoustic, USB interface, modelling, effects, looper etc. If so, I wonder how good the cab sim are. ). I can only afford one right now obviously, as there are no gigs, so would love to hear people's opinions on these options for silent (or low volume) recording (and their continued usefulness moving forward). Also, the built in amp simulations sond amazing, and you definetly don't need an amp and a loadbox to make this thing sound killer. The Iridium or Helix would have brought latency issues with that. Have any of you used the Cab M or Iridium with FFRM (powered monitors)?
