I've always been surprised that 1983 doesn't get more attention. Although Garcia was in trouble with his habit, credit the man for putting his best foot forward every time he hit the stage. It is the most epic version as it includes the mid-section beautiful jam not present of prior versions, as well as the glorious closing panarama filled with eastern style colors and emotion filled returns. The recording offers an enticing blend of funk, jam, roots, and blues that prove light-hearted and fun, while also being soulful and sincere. It's neat. If you're like me, then you find Sugaree (and Row Jimmy) to be ultra monotous and boring, regardless of how well it's played. Somewhat aimless jam post UJB imo.
